Liam James Widmer

Where to begin...our baby boy was born on April 5th at 5:14am. He was more beautiful and precious than I think I ever had the time to imagine. I can't believe he is here now, yet I already can't fathom life without him. He has completed our family in every way. As Addie says, "We love you soooo happy Liam!"
Yes, Kevin and I made ANOTHER red head!!!
Liam weighed 9 pounds 1 ounce and was 21 1/2 inches long. Much bigger than sister!
So thankful for this man, who is an amazing father to my babies.
Aside from Liam having a fractured clavicle, which absolutely breaks our hearts, labor went quick and well. I had actually seen my doctor, that morning and he happened to be working at the hospital later that night and was able to deliver Liam. I am so grateful for Dr. Le and have been in his care since before Addie.
Big sister coming to see her baby brother!
She was so incredibly sweet and kept saying, "he's a cute lil' baby!"

Dr. Le came back to visit and was there to hand Liam to Addie. When I would take her with me to prenatal appointments he would always involve her and have her squirt the gel on my tummy and find his heartbeat.
There are no words.
Liam came pretty fast, so unfortunately none of my family could make it, but my parents arrived early that morning and were there to share in the excitement, which meant they had to drive through icy passes in the middle of the night. I'm so thankful they were able to follow each other.
Auntie Pam was able to make it later in the afternoon. It was great to have their love and support, especially with taking care of Addelyn and the pets.

our thoughtful girl

While we were busy packing the hospital bags, organizing the nursery and hanging up pictures, Addie discovered one of baby brother's new toys, his stuffed giraffe. I let her play with the giraffe for a little while, explaining that it was baby brother's but that he would share with her. After she started dragging him throughout the house and seemingly started forming an attachment to him, Kevin and I agreed we should put him away.

She protested for a while and continued to whine for giraffe. Then I stopped and explained to her that baby brother didn't have very many animals and she had lots. I started naming them off. She stopped whining and left his room. A little later she came back in with her polar bear and sock monkey and placed them in his crib.

This, as you can imagine, brought tears to my eyes and I gave her a big hug and asked if I could take pictures of her sharing. So these pictures are a little reenactment of a touching moment. Since then, I've been finding books, and other toys from her bedroom in his crib. So proud of our sweet girl!
Just have to remember to teach her not to put things in the crib when baby brother is in there! I also keep finding baby dolls covered up so well with blankies you can't see their faces. I'm working on that one too.

daddy's shoes

Kevin's mom sent us a fabulous box of love recently. In it was some of Kevin's baby items and pictures. I don't know if I could find the words to describe seeing baby pictures of someone you love so much!

Amongst the baby items were a pair of Kevin's baby shoes! I had to find a way to do something with them and couldn't stand the thought of putting them away in a keepsake box, that collects dust out in the garage (a lot of dust with all of Kevin's woodworking). So here's my latest addition to baby boy's room. Thank you Jody from the bottom of my heart for sending such thoughtful and meaningful gifts!
Okay maybe I'm biased, but again, I think it looks so much sweeter in person. My camera just couldn't quite capture all the cuteness.

36 weeks

Here we are! Everything is looking good! At our last check-up Dr. Le said he's head down and weighing in at about 7 pounds. (Although I'm not sure the weight prediction is all that accurate.) I'm not going to lie and say I'm feeling great, I'm not. But I'm so excited to hold this little boy in my arms and I know without a doubt, every ache and pain is more than worth it!

a wall

I've gotten a wall completed in the nursery and a few other things accomplished too! We're getting there! As you may know I have a little bunting obsession and just knew I had to incorporate it in his room some how. So when my mom was here, we made the bunting for his bedroom! Personally, I don't think my photography skills do it justice, it is much cuter in person. And the animal-alphabet cards...I've loved these ever since there was a twinkle in my eye! (They just weren't quite the look I wanted for Addelyn's nursery.)

Kevin has been working hard on Addie's big girl bed and I'm looking forward to posting pictures of his look-alike Pottery Barn Kids bed. Meanwhile, Addie and I have been busy organizing baby brother's room. She loves to come into his room with me and tinker with all of his toys and books, many of which were once hers. It's slowly but surely, coming together!

A Sprinkle for Baby Boy

My good friend Jen threw us a "Sprinkle" (a lighter version of a shower). It was a great celebration! I felt very loved and special and I think we are a little closer to being ready for our baby boy! Thank you, thank you Jen and everyone else who came or sent their love!

I wish terribly that I had had someone take more pictures of me with friends, but here's what I have from Jen's blog.

30 weeks

Three quarters of the way there! In about two months he will be here! Since the holidays, time is just flying by! We are getting closer on a name, but might wait until he is here to make the final decision. Currently the front runners are Liam and Hudson. Kevin handed me a name book he had secretly purchased and had been highlighting. A lot of the names we both liked, but they just didn't flow well with James Widmer. The one that stuck for both of us was Liam. So we'll see if there are any new revelations in the next couple of months.

As far as the baby goes, my last appointment went well and Dr. Le estimated he was in the 50th percentile for size and said he had great muscle tone. Which I get to feel quite often!

Baby Boy We Can't Wait To Meet You

I'm 28 weeks now and we decided to get another peek at this baby boy before he makes his appearance, so we had a 3D ultasound this weekend! They didn't turn out as clear as Addie's did (click here to see hers), and we think this was due to the placement of my placenta. The probe had to go through many layers to get a view of baby boy.

Still we got to view his chubby cheeks and his feet that were up crossed by his head the entire time! He was (and still is I think) transverse, meaning side to side in my tummy, which is fine for now. He still has a couple of months to start heading down!

Anyways, too fun! I could look at these pictures forever! (The last one is of his flexed feet.)

26 weeks

Today I was stopped by a man who said, "you must be having a boy!" Amazing how people can do that! I guess they do have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. He also told me to give him some instruments and let him be and that he was going to have rhythm. Hmmm...we'll see about that but it certainly is fun to think of all the possibilities though. Will he have red hair like his sister? Brown eyes like his Daddy or blue-green like mine? Will he be tender-hearted or rough-and-tumble or maybe a good combination of both? Will he take to sports or be more musical and artsy? Can't wait to hold this little boy and learn all about him!

22 weeks

Although I'm so incredibly grateful to be pregnant, I'm definitely not the type that just loves it. However, I don't think there is anything more amazing and special than feeling the growing babe inside you move. Okay, maybe I can...when you get to share that with the only person who could possibly love that growing baby as much as you do.
We are still working on a name for our baby boy. My votes are Hudson, Gavin, or Parker, Addie's is Baby Brother, and Kevin's ummm...Floyd? It's going to be a while. At least we've decided on the middle and last name!

It's a...

BABY BOY!!! Kevin and I truly couldn't have cared either way but we are thrilled to get one of each! Addie seems to be stuck on "it's a baby siser." We know she'll come around and will be a great big sister.

That night before our ultrasound I could barely sleep, but in my moments of rest I had a dream that we went to have our appointment at one of the Asian nail salons (I know crazy random) and the Vietnamese woman who was doing my ultrasound told me in her very thick accent, it was a cowboy! I replied, "It's not a cowgirl?" (just to make sure I understood her through her accent) and she said, "No, it's a cowboy." Well, that little Vietnamese woman in my dreams was right!

Here's some pictures of our night out with family making the announcement and celebrating. Gramma Jody and Grandpa Bill, I think you might have better pictures you'll have to send to us.
We had dinner at Mazzi's and for dessert Kevin and I had cupcakes made with blue frosting inside, from none other than Sweet Life. Our family didn't know whether they would see pink frosting or blue inside the cupcakes.
Frantically getting into their cupcakes to find out which color!
Addie just enjoying a cupcake!
It was blue!!! Now for a name...

16 weeks

I'm technically 17 weeks now while writing this, if anyone's counting, but I thought I'd update some pictures of the growing belly!
I'm starting to feel some flutters and we get to hear the baby's heartbeat on the home-Doppler I purchased. Addie loves to squirt the gel on my tummy, but looses interest quickly. It takes me quite a while to find the heartbeat and when I do it's gone within a few seconds. There's one active little baby in there! Hard to believe that from crown to rump the baby is already over 5 inches long, has all major organs and it's own unique fingerprints!

We Have An Announcement...

Kevin, Addelyn and I are expecting a baby in April!!! I'm officially 12 weeks pregnant (technically 12 and a half, those halves so matter). I'm starting to feel much better as the nausea is easing up and my confidence in the viability of this pregnancy continues to grow.
And our Addie-girl...in her own little way, she is starting to grasp what's taking place. She loves to find the babies in my pregnancy book and recently asked our babysitter if there was a baby in her tummy too. She always points to the ta-tas when she asks this, because that was the only thing (so far) that stuck out on me or the babysitter. The only place a baby could conceivably be, right?!
Here's one of the first pictures of our new baby at 8 weeks.

And here's another at 12 weeks, waving at us!
And here's a pic of my fast growing belly.
It's definitely true what they say about showing quicker with the second.

Kevin Wins

It's now 9:00 pm on my due date and we just got back from a long walk around the Suisun Marina. There is still no new signs telling us baby Addelyn is on her way. So it looks like Kevin wins; he is the one person who voted for her to come sometime after her due date! I guess she's already a daddy's girl. Sorry Grandpa Baker!
I found this article today and thought it depicted my thoughts and feelings so well for the time being and for any of you momma's who've seen your due date come and go you will be able to relate as well!

What To Do When You're Overdue
by Ericka Lutz

"You're having a baby? When?!?" From the minute your urine turned the little stick pink or the nurse called with the news, (for some women, from the second of conception), every event of your pregnancy has focused towards one magic moment in the future: your due date. It's been emblazoned on your calendar and your co-workers' memories; it's practically been tattooed on your forehead. Well now the future is here. It came, it went, and you're still here waiting. And waiting.

All your friends and family are waiting, too. Your bags are packed (you check the contents daily). They sit, sullen and neglected, by the front door. The "happy day" has come and gone, the bus left without you, and, even though you know that only five percent of all women deliver on their due dates, you feel cheated, robbed, over-anxious, chomping at the bit. You've been handed a rain check for the World Series. The big bobsled race has been delayed because of gale winds. . . you get the idea.

Here you sit, a great big lump of a woman, bigger than you ever thought you could possibly be, all dressed up with no place to go. Well, not even dressed up—those once-cute maternity duds have turned to stretched-out, stained rags, but you're NOT buying another outfit now. If this is your first child, you've been waiting for months (perhaps your whole life) to be initiated into the mysteries of womanhood but now, instead of gazing into the beautiful milky eyes of a newborn, you're seeing your OB-GYN so often that you can predict her shoe wardrobe rotation.

Remember way back when, a couple of months ago, when you had that sudden moment of sheer horror realizing that something the size of a cantaloupe (the baby's head) was going to HAVE to get out of a rather sensitive hole currently the size of a teaspoon. Well, now you're way past caring. It's gotta come out. If that's the only way, well then, you'll DEAL with it. AS SOON AS SOMEBODY LETS YOU!! Meanwhile, everybody keeps telling you, "Enjoy your freedom while you still have it," "Get a lot of rest, you're going to need it!" and other inane (and accurate) comments. Can't they understand you're primed, ready to rumble?

Hopefully our last hoo-ra! (for a little while anyways)

We had a busy weekend which was good to get our mind semi-off of Addelyn's unpredictable arrival. We did some fishin' and relaxing on the boat, had friends over for a bar-b-q and some "Mexican" horseshoes, and ended the weekend with Allie's 2 year old birthday party!

We'll be waitin' for Shel and Ryan to settle the score!

Bentley loves to sniff, bark, and kiss the fish before Kevin throws them back in.

Addie Ann's Nursery

I'm done teaching now and time is flying by. Our days have been filled with "to do's" and somehow we seem to keep adding to the list. This is just the beginning of parenthood, huh?!? For now, we are able to check off the nursery!

All of this preparation has made us more and more excited for the day she arrives, but we are trying to savor our quiet nights with dinner and a movie, sleeping in, and our care-free excursions on the boat. There is no denying though, that life has already changed. I'm constantly reminded of that by the little arm or leg that suddenly stretches out, the case of the hiccups coming from inside my tummy, and the increase in "practice" contractions. Our little girl is on the way and we can hardly wait!
