memorial day

Can you guess where our Memorial Day bouquet came from?
As we stayed in our sweet little home this extended weekend and caught up on projects, bar-b-qued and enjoyed our babies, I couldn't help but feel tremendously grateful this year for the freedoms we have. I'm so fortunate to be a woman raising my kids in such a wonderful country. I can't even begin to imagine having to sacrifice my husband, son, or daughter for those freedoms. My heart is full of gratitude to those that have endured great sacrifice in order for us to have one of many peaceful and free weekends. Thank you to my cousin who currently serves, my grandfathers, Kevin's father and many, many more who have given their lives.

gender roles

Lately, Kevin and Addie will head off to the hardware store, while Liam and I will stay home and bake. Or Kevin and Addie will work in the garage, while Liam and I do a little shopping. We giggle at how we are reversing the stereotypical gender roles! Let's just say we are shooting for well-rounded, non-gender biased kids! Hey, I loved catching frogs and collecting baseball cards and Kevin, he looooves to get pedicures at the spa with me! And we are all right...right?! Hee! Hee!

Here's a video of just that...Addie in a pink skirt, that she loves to wear, shoveling dirt. It's been pretty popular with the family, so I thought I'd better add it to the blog.
Kevin set Addie up with some extra tools, while he built himself a new workbench. Addie was thrilled and this kept her quite busy!

blackberries

Often, I think Addie tends to take more after her dad, but the other day it got really quiet in our backyard. When I went to look for her, I found her grazing on the blackberries, Kevin had planted (yes, bought and PLANTED) on the side of our house. This couldn't be more like her mama as a kid! My mom and dad would look all over for me, only to find me out by the blueberry bushes just grazing away.
In Oregon, blackberries are rampant and no one welcomes them in their backyard, so my dad and I would go down by the river and spend hours picking buckets and buckets of blackberries. (I'm sure I ate buckets and buckets too while picking.) We'd take them home to my mom so she could make yummy blackberry cobbler! And that's just what Addie and I did one evening! Except we got to pick them right in our own backyard!

gotcha!

With the help of Addie-girl, I captured some smiles on camera today!
The cheek-to-cheek smile.
The half-smile.
And this one cracks Kevin and I up, the surprised look.

our weekend

We had lots of fun this weekend! Here's a little peak into some of the good memories we made...
Addelyn got a new giraffe pool!
We Bar-B-Qued all weekend but on Saturday night we made smores!
Then Daddy thought it would be fun to dig out some sparklers!
On Sunday we took Liam on his first trip to the zoo! I don't think this one counts though because this is how he stayed the entire time.

all my friends are coming over today

This one's especially for you Auntie Pam!

they call me mama

I felt so loved and blessed this Mother's Day!
One of my favorite things about being a mom of two now, is watching them interact. Addie will ask to hold Liam, loves to talk to him and tries to hold his tightly fisted little hand. Here's a little video of her trying to hold his hand and talk to him, although sadly you can't quite hear her.

The other night though, I remembered to write down a little dialogue. Here's how it went...Kevin and Addie had gone to the store to pick up a few things and when she walked in the door she said, "Hey, Mom, you seen Liam?"
"Yep, he's right there," (Sitting in his lamb chair, in the kitchen, like you see in the pictures below).
Then she went over to him and started telling him all about her trip to the store.
She said, "Hey buddy. I went to the store with Dad and I drink his juice all. You got elephants on your shirt.Yah, you such a cute baby."
Liam just looked up at her and started coo-ing and kicking his legs.
Ahhh...nothing can compare to these moments!
These are pictures from one of our mornings while I was making Addie breakfast.
Look at little man's legs hanging off! He's getting so big!
Our sweet balding baby boy! Hee! Hee!

princess addelyn

On any given day you can find our daughter dressed up in this cheapy costume I bought on clearance after Halloween was over last year. It's tattered and torn but she couldn't care less and seems to feel awfully special when she has this dress on. She's always sure to accessorize it with her "princess slippers," (a pair of brown slip-ons from Gap Outlet) and of course her princess crown, not to be confused with a tiara. I've casually looked and thought about buying her an authentic Disney princess costume, but then think, nah! Why fix what isn't broken, right?

sunny days

Just another sunny day in our backyard! Love these two!

addelyn's two year old book

I got the idea from my friend Jen to make Addie a book for every birthday (of course I'll be making Liam birthday books too). I know I'm a little early this year, but hey, I had a coupon.

one month birthday!

Liam was officially one month old on May 5th (Cinco De Mayo)!
 Our baby boy is...
  • completely out of newborn clothing and now into the next size up
  • loving car rides or walks in the stroller, anything in his carseat and a little vibration
  • waking up to nurse about every three or four hours through the night
  • and he has the sweetest little husky cry when he's ready to be changed, nursed or just loved on!
We did a little celebrating by going out to a restaurant for the first time with two kids. We went to a nice Mexican restaurant that had some fun live music and the kids did perfect! Kevin and I were both relieved and very proud!

Addie and I also thought Liam's one month birthday was a good excuse to make some cupcakes! So earlier that day, Addelyn helped me decorate some cupcakes. After dinner, we lit a candle and sang to Liam. Silly, I know, but we had fun!
