A Day With Skylar

We got to watch Skylar on Friday and I don't know who had more fun, me or the kids?! The last time Addie and Skylar hung out they had many single words and a few sayings, but didn't really know how to communicate with each other. Today was completely different and it was so fun to watch them interact and converse!

Here's just a few of their conversations...

Addie: See my new dress Sklyar? (As she's pulling her dress up and down, flashing her diaper.) It's got flowers on it. What doing buddy?
Skylar: I'm bonking the balls. I need to. (Very busy bonking the balls and completely uninterested in her dress.)
Addie: Dood job Skylar!

Here's some video of our silly Addie spinning in her dress for Skylar, after this conversation took place.

Later, after lunch Skylar and Addie made a joint masterpiece. As I was quietly picking up lunch, I heard them say...

Addie: Making an ocean?
Skylar: Yeah, dolphins.
Addie: That's right Skylar!

And of course then I reached for the camera, and here's what I got.

I couldn't resist snapping a few more pictures of these cutie pies.

Girls' Slumber Party

Well that was the plan at least. Kevin was gone for a trade show in Redding and everytime he's gone I realize how comforting it is to have him next to me at night. (Even if he wakes me up half dozen times.) So I thought why not let Addie sleep with me, as a special treat when Daddy's gone. Ummm, here's how it went...

Addie: Whoa, it's dark in here.
Me: Yes, it's night time. Now go to sleep.
Addie: (In a whisper voice as she's stroking my face and giving me kisses.) You okay Mama? Mama sleepin'.
Me: I'm okay, Mama is sleeping. If you don't go to sleep too, you're going to have to go back into your own bed.
Addie: More water Mama? Where's elephant?

After about an hour of this and lots of wallering all over me (now five after ten) I took her into her own room, where she fell fast asleep right away. Just too exciting sleeping with Mama I guess. We'll have to try when she's a little bit older.

So Pretty

Last night, after we got home from dinner with friends, Kevin and I were in our bedroom changing into pajamas for the night, when we noticed Addie wasn't in the room with us and it was awfully quiet. So I went looking for her and before I turned the corner into our entry way she says very proudly, "I pretty Mama!?!" There she was with my mascara, she had found in my purse. Thankfully she missed her eye lashes or any where close to her eyes.

There's a little more to this story though. Every now and then I'll touch up my makeup in the parking lot before we go into where ever it is we our going. Addie watches me quietly in the rear view mirror and then says so genuinely, "So pretty Mama!" I don't know where she gets this from, but every time she says it I'm so touched. It takes everything in me not to cry and smear my newly touched-up makeup.

So...yes, Addie Ann you are so pretty, on the outside and on the inside too, where it matters most. And of course with or without makeup. We love you so much!

Our Labor Day Weekend

It was a pretty mellow Labor Day weekend. Our friends, Michelle and Ryan, whom we joined in on their Labor Day camping tradition last year, had their baby boy Christopher! He was born August 27th and we are so happy for them!
So instead of camping this year, we watched a not-so-great first Duck game on Saturday, went to a children's festival on Sunday and then took the boat out on Monday!
I didn't pack around my good and very large camera, so these are what we managed to capture of the weekend with our cell phones.
First time on a Ferris Wheel!
Going down the big slide with Daddy!
First face painting. She did surprisingly good for the face painter.
Watching a wildlife show with the best seat around.
The best thing about California waterways is that there is usually a restaurant  or tackle shop, accessible by boat, around every bend. So we pulled our boat up to the Sugar Barge restaurant for some yummy burgers and fries. They also have some great tent camping that we are going to have to look into!
Addie loved her new floaty Daddy got her.

Things I Don't Want to Forget

Her affection...
Addie says "Happy Birthday Mama" as if it were another way of saying "I love you."
I get to hear "I love you soooo happy." A combination of "I love you so much" and "You make me so happy."
And I never want to forget her completely organic "I love you's" and random hugs and kisses on whatever body part she can reach.
Last, I love when she "gets the grits" as our family calls it, and just can't get a enough snuggles in.
Ahhh...my heart is melting just writing this.

Her mixed up consonants...
good job! = dood job!
otter = water
yellow = lellow
ice or rice = mice
xylophone = telephone
twinkle, twinkle = krinkle, krinkle

Here's a little sample of "Krinkle, Krinkle Little Star." Usually she belts this one out and sometimes her little voice cracks as she gets really loud. She saved that version for off-camera though.

A one-way conversation with her daddy...
Addie: "Where Daddy is?"
Kevin: pops his head up from behind the couch
Addie: "Dare ya are! Daddy so cute! What doing Daddy?"

Baby makes us laugh...
"Baby steam roll grass!"
"Baby on da loose!"
We are in a horrible habit of referring to her as "the baby." (Mainly Kevin) So bad in fact, Addie refers to herself as baby too..."baby do it," "baby have some?" What have we done?!?

Posing with a lip gloss mustache. Love that face!
